There are probably worse things to get phone calls about.

However ones from the police station which involve words such as "child" and "car accident" are pretty bad. Especially when the child involved your fifteen year old ward.

Which is exactly the sort of phone call Andrew got on Saturday evening.

"You can take driver's education in school. I believe they offer it during your junior year."

He unlocks the door to the apartment and ushers Alec in.

"Do you have a plausible reason I shouldn't trust them?"

Andrew doesn't trust anyone, of course, but he knows Alec is trying to manipulate him, and he doesn't care for it.
rianofski: (You always do)

Andrew ponders the thought for a moment, lighting a cigarette of his own. He knows Alec is trying to get something out of him, but he may actually have a point.

"I'll teach you," he eventually says brusquely.

"Nothing until you pay back the car with interest."

Of course he'd charge interest on the car payments. Of course.

"When I bought it new, the car was $1,100. Of course, it would have depreciated in value over the last two years from general wear and tear, so I'd say that at the time you crashed it, it was probably worth about $900. If you need to pay back $900, I'd say an interest rate of 5% is reasonable. That means that the longer you take to pay it off, the more expensive it will be, so I suggest paying as quickly as you can."

Yes, Andrew's put some thought into this.
rianofski: (In whom you've never believed)

"5% on every monthly payment, of course. We'll set a minimum monthly payment, but of course, you're more than welcome to pay more than the minimum and get it over with quicker."

And Andrew's going to make some money. Delightful.

"Good. And I assume we won't need to have another conversation about asking before using my property?"

He takes a lazy drag on his cigarette, clearly in his element when making Alec uncomfortable.

"Well," Andrew said, enjoying this perhaps more than he should have been, "That entirely depends. You're making a bit of money working for me now, so perhaps half of that paycheck is reasonable."
rianofski: (And all is undone)

[personal profile] rianofski 2012-09-10 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"You will, of course, have additional opportunities to earn money throughout your repayments, but that money will go straight to me."

Yes, he's going to get all the household chores out of you, Alec.

"Go get my briefcase, and I'll write it on official paper."
rianofski: (Old lies and fireflies)

[personal profile] rianofski 2012-09-11 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
He opens the briefcase and rummages around for some paper as he thinks about whether or not he wants something to eat. Eventually he shrugs. "There's crackers in the cupboard. I'll have some of those."

He looks at the sandwich suspiciously. "Are you trying to bribe me?" he asks, even as he picks it up and takes a bite of it, realizing he's surprisingly hungry. Fetching Alec from the police station apparently took a lot out of him.
