Blackthorn is a nice little village an hour or so outside of Cork. The scenery is nice and quaint and there's a lot of iron hanging over the doors as there's a gate to fairy near by. It's guarded by the McCallums but, you can never be too careful. Magic, beyond the iron, is everywhere, mixed into the random daily lives of people who live there. It's not hidden any more than electricity and electronics are hidden.
A sign on one of the shops says that it is having a sale on home security wards. The bookshop shows the latest offering from Rose of Thorns, a dragon and romance writer. Tiny sprites flit from flower to flower much like hummingbirds. All sorts of little things like that set within a perfectly normal looking Irish village.
Also, interestingly enough. They're not in Ireland. They're in Eire. The island is whole and, according to the newspaper, they have a king by the name of Calvin Daly (who is in talks with the Queen of England, still Elizabeth, about trade agreements.)
At this particular point in the day, a nice summer's day, Rory's kicking a football around in one of the parks by himself. When he sees Amy wandering around, he gives a bit of a grin and then "accidentally" kicks it in her direction. It's an excellently controlled kick made to look like an accident.
