After this.
Halfway drunk Alec leans against Henri's door trying to figure out how to even say this. Break the news? Something. It was something that everyone thought about even if they pretended they didn't. But when it came it was always a surprise.
Taking a deep breath, figuring there was nothing that would make it better Alec gave a sharp rap on the door and waited.

"Are you alright?"
Henri reached out for Alec and pulled him inside, closing the door behind him.
"What happened?"

So, yes, the mistrust there was definitely mutual.

Dropping his head against Henri's shoulder he shakes it. "I got drafted."
Which in a sense could be that Andrew failed to do something...

Henri kept holding Alec while he looked around himself, feeling as if he was losing the ground under his feet. He should have expected this, but somehow he wasn't prepared at all.
"It'll be alright."

"Andrew got me out of combat duty, but I'm still going overseas."
His fingers curl against Henri's skin, scratching it lightly if only because there's no shirt.
"And I don't know what to do." Which is an entirely stupid statement as it's sort of obvious what he's going to do. But the emotional parts are there. He feels completely lost and somewhat betrayed.

His first thought was going with him and his second thought simply had him holding Alec even tighter, as if that could keep him from leaving somehow. He didn't want to lose him, but he also realized that he couldn't be the weak one now.
"It will be alright. The war won't be much longer."
But it didn't take long.

Which isn't in a war zone per say but it's still in a danger zone. Bombs fall where they will, after all.
Alec would love it if Henri came with him, but he can't ask that, he wouldn't ask that. He just clings, instead.
"That's what Andrew says. It should be over within a year."
No. It didn't long at all.

Henri pulled away enough to watch Alec's face, wanting to look into his eyes without letting go of him.
"I thought about volunteering."
He'd thought about a lot of things, really, but that one definitely crossed his mind as well.

He's definitely panicked and frightened. Henri's statement doesn't help much.
"What? Volunteer where?"
Enlisting crossed Alec's mind once or twice but then sense overrode it.
