The door to Andrew's office banged open by a hard push from the other side. There wasn't the decency of knocking or even a question for permission. Lukas stormed into the room, dragging a reluctant Alec with him by the arm.

The boy had a developing black eye on his face and his clothes were scuffed and torn. It wasn't too much of a loss, at ten, he was starting his growth spurt and would likely out grow them within a few months.

He let Alec go and he stumbled a few feet.

"What," Lukas snapped, as always in Russian, "Have you been teaching the boy?"

Andrew opens it curiously, not at all sure what he'll find within it. Alec hadn't given him much information on that front.

Mostly because Alec doesn't have much information on it. The nice lady gave him the envelope and said he should give it to Andrew. Which he's doing, if a bit on the late side.

But the contents are probably not going to help any of Andrew's paranoid tendencies because they're photographs of Alec taken at a sniper's angle while he's out at school.

Andrew tenses immediately as he looks through the photos, holding them in a way that neither Alec nor Lukas can see them. He knows exactly what they're implying, and he doesn't like it.

"Alec, I need you to go to your room."

He won't be accepting any protests.

Alec opens his mouth to protest and then shuts it.

"Yes, sir," he says.

After he's gone Lukas looks at Andrew for an explanation.

"I understand that, given our previous conversation, this could seem an imposition, but I may need Alec to stay with you for several days while I attempt to... work something out."

"Sasha is never an imposition in my life, but what is wrong?"

"It has come to my attention that someone may be... interested in threatening myself, the child, or both. Until I get to the bottom of it, I'd like him to stay with you. Keeping him safe is my priority."

He doesn't usually reveal himself to care quite so much, but this is not a time to hide things.

It's quite obvious that Lukas wants to say something along the lines of this is what Andrew isn't good for Alec, but it is perhaps a measure of respect for the man and his godson that he doesn't.

"I see. Then of course I will take him. His safety is of the highest concern. What will you tell him?"

"I'll tell him that I need to take a business trip. He doesn't need to be unnecessarily scared."

There's a thoughtful look on Lukas' face and then he nods.

"Yes. Very well. You'll let me know what is happening."

It's not a question.

"Of course. I'll keep you informed."

And he will, for once.

Shock. Horror. Amazement.

"Good. I would hate for anything to happen to you. Sasha, for some reason, cares for you and I don't know what will happen to him if we to both hmmn... leave him."

A slight smile of acknowledgement, even though the compliment was rather grudging at best.

"He cares for you, too. He's lost enough people in his life."

He's tried to convince Alec that Andrew was a bad idea, but Alec is stupidly stubborn sometimes and won't be swayed. Lukas also knows that Andrew does seem to be trying to do the best for Alec, in his own - horribly incorrect - way.

"He has. In too short a period of time. I assume, since we are on this morbid topic, you've made provisions for him?"

"Of course. It would be poor organization not to, given the circumstances."

"I had to ask, you realize this."

"I understand. I wouldn't expect any less."

Though he doesn't see eye to eye with Lukas on most things, he does appreciate his obvious care for Alec.

The feeling is quite mutual.

"You best tell him then so we can get going."

((And then I had this crack thought of 'if this was an actual canon book/tv show/something or another fandom would write hate-sex fic of the two.'))

"Of course."

He stands up and walks to Alec's room, peering around the doorframe.

"Alec? I've been informed that I need to go on a business trip, and you'll have to stay with Lukas for a bit."

((And then I just made a hideous snorting noise at that idea))

He's changed out of his torn clothing and into his non-school clothes. Andrew's caught him in the midst of trying to pick up.

Alec gives him a suspicious look at the pronouncement. He didn't hear the phone ring and this all of a sudden came up after the envelope.

Of course, there's nothing he can do about it. The adults will do what the adults want to do.

"All right."

((There are times I shouldn't be allowed to think))

"Get whatever you'll need together as quickly as possible. I realize that it's short notice, but it couldn't be avoided."

He knows Alec is smart enough to know that he's probably not being told everything, but that's unavoidable.

"Yes, sir."

He gives Andrew another suspicious look and then gathers his things up and shoves them into a bag. For a second it looks like he's going to grab his dragon, but leaves it on his bed. He does take his school things, however.

Lukas is there now, watching the proceedings.

"Come on. We'll go get something to eat before we go home."

"Okay." Alec continues to give both adults the same look.

"I'll see you soon, Alec. Have a good time."

He wants Alec's time with Lukas to be as normal as possible, given the circumstances. Circumstances he can't tell Alec about, but that he knows the boy probably suspects anyway.

"Yes, sir."

There's a frown and then Alec gives him a quick hug.

Andrew is slightly surprised, but he pats Alec on the head awkwardly, attempting to return at least some of the affection. And then he just kind of stands there, waiting for Alec and Lukas to leave, looking somewhat confused.
