The multiverse always provides a way to summon eventually. Alec would liken it to a form of worship. Gods have their rituals that they require to be preformed to make them happy to grant a petitioner's request. (Don't eat for three days, wash yourself in elderberry juice, sacrifice thirteen virgins...) Eldritch horrors have their rituals that need to be performed to cause them to show up. Might as well get a leg up on the game and get some form of amusement out of it.

It's not a headspace Alec lets him drift into often and it's hard to drag himself out of sometimes. Especially when there's no reason to. It's a very seductive place. A rapid change of subject is a good enough way to do it when Phoenix woobles aren't around.
